Sentinel editorial board misses the mark on early voting and high school rezoning
The parents involved in the Seminole high school rezoning effort worked diligently to produce plans that were equitable and responsible.  The School Board tossed their months of effort aside for a plan of their own that was devised in a short period of time. The parents have earned the right to be treated much better than they have been, by both the School Board and the Orlando Sentinel.

Has the School Board gone too far: YOU make the call
Every totalitarian regime eventually crumbles under its own weight, and it looks as if the walls are starting to crack at the School Board headquarters on Lake Mary Boulevard.

'If I am wrong on this one, I'll literally eat my hat'
Slats offers apologies to the Longwood City Commission, the Seminole Democrats, and interim appointed Supervisor of Elections Mike Ertel.  But he does not expect to be offering apologies any time soon to Longwood City Attorney Richard Taylor or City Administrator John Drago.

Here's to you, Mrs. Robinson, it's time for you to go

Disappointed with elected officials? Look in the mirror
Here's the truth, straight and simple, to the parents in Longwood, Oviedo and citizens elsewhere who feel disappointed in their elected officials: you get the government you deserve.  Unless we start caring beyond what we can see at the end of our noses, nothing will ever change.

School Board shocks itself by getting one right
In their middle school rezoning decision, Seminole County School Board members surprised themselves more than anyone else by adhering to their own policies and keeping faith with their constituents.

It's time to get Grandma out from behind the wheel
The School Board appears to be a largely matronly group comprised of  grandmotherly types, with avuncular-looking Barry Gainer thrown in for good measure.  Once they go into action, though, it soon becomes obvious that Grandma has lost her mind, acting as a petulant and spoiled child beyond reason.  Rather than being a caretaker for them, Uncle Barry instead acquiesces to their desires, apparently more concerned with protecting his inheritance than the children attending Seminole County schools.

Beating the Bushes for a Supervisor of Elections
Mike Ertel once campaigned for office by telling everyone about the embarrassment of being forced by his sister as a child to play dress-up in high heels, a skirt and lipstick. Let your imagination fill in the rest.
