Lake Mary to retain early voting option

The Lake Mary City Commission voted Thursday evening to opt out of early voting in their city, but with the clear intent of offering a future provision that will allow early voting for city residents.

The Lake Mary commissioners felt the 15-day early voting period mandated by Florida state statute was not logistically feasible for the city, leading to their vote to opt out of complying with that provision.

Commissioners, however, feel  the city can provide a four-day early voting period contiguous with and leading up to Election Day.  The commissioners gave a clear intent that they will come forth in the future with a vote to provide such an early-voting period for Lake Mary municipal elections.

Their decision closely mirrors the actions of the Altamonte Springs City Commission, which enacted similar measures two nights before.
