Seminole County commissioners Tuesday approved a $36.8 million flyover bridge from State Road 436 to Red Bug Lake Road, designed to relieve traffic congestion at the busy intersection.

The project, which is expected to be completed by 2012, would improve traffic where S.R. 436, Red Bug Lake Road and Winter Park Drive meet.

More than 68,000 vehicles use the intersection daily.

Tuesday's vote clears the way for design, land acquisition and construction. The project will widen portions of S.R. 436 and Red Bug Lake Road, widen turn lanes and build the two-lane flyover from southbound S.R. 436 to eastbound Red Bug Lake Road.
